Impulse Response
This is a straightforward ‘Press red for….’ campaign. All the content is delivered in the broadcast stream and can be as simple as a request to the viewer to respond by pressing the red button; once they have that is the end of their interaction, which results in the advertiser just being sent the digital TV subscriber’s name and address. However it can be extended so that, having pressed the red button, the viewer is delivered a series of data capture questions on-screen that they respond to by using their remote control. The questions can used to ask for whatever information the advertiser wants to get back from the viewer.
Microsite
This is an extension of Impulse Response and is still delivered in the broadcast stream. Once, however, the viewer has pressed the red button, the linear broadcast they are watching shrinks to 1/4 screen and the advertiser can brand the remaining screen with graphics and colours whilst the viewer interacts with the data capture questions.
DAL
A Dedicated Advertiser Location is, to all intents and purposes, an advertiser’s own channel. Having pressed red the viewer switches from the linear broadcast into that channel. The advertiser buys the ‘channel’ on a temporary basis for the duration of their campaign, and can populate it with whatever content they wish. Each DAL is a bespoke design and built totally to the advertiser’s requirements. The opportunities within it are almost endless. The advertiser can run dedicated video and audio, run animation, and even broadcast games for viewers to play. The advertiser has to buy bandwidth on which to host the DAL, the amount of bandwidth each DAL requires depending on the amount of content that is in it.
Flexi DAL (by Scarlettec)
This follows the concept of a DAL, but thanks to the whizzes at Scarlettec, we are able to dynamically ingest and transcode web info, info from mobiles, RSS feeds and new video content into the pre-approved structure of our Flexi DAL. This means that, unlike most other forms of TV advcert, the story line can change during a campaign.
Mini-DAL
This is a templatised version of the DAL. It is similar to a DAL, in that having pressed red the viewer is switched into an advertiser’s dedicated temporary channel. A Mini-DAL comes, however, as a complete ‘off the shelf’ package, including bandwidth. The advertiser has a choice of three templated formats (3/4 screen with linear broadcast, 3/4 screen with dedicated audio and video, and full screen with dedicated audio) and can utilise a maximum of three screen pages.
Advertiser Site
This is a permanent presence on interactive TV. The advertiser has their own dedicated site that runs 24 hours a day for 365 days of the year. Each site is bespoke, and designed and built to the advertiser’s requirements, which can be as straightforward or as comprehensive as they wish, with the content only limited by bandwidth. Content can be refreshed up to a maximum of every two minutes, and can be reached by viewers via their remote control. They may also reach it via the red button on the advertiser’s spot commercial.
